Black arts expo features ‘talk back’ on Bernard Shaw novella

The 2017 African American Arts Exposition — featuring paintings, sculptures, dance, and instrumental and choral music along with a culinary arts demonstration and a show and tell on the art of natural hair care — will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts.

At 3:00 p.m., actors from the Paul Robeson Theatre will present a stage reading of “The Adventures of the Black Girl in Her Search for God,” Bernard Shaw’s 1932 novella turned into into a one-act play that deals with God, racism, slavery, colonialism and feminism.   There will be a “talk back” after the play, moderated by the Rev. Dr. James A. Lewis III, pastor of Miracle Missions Full Gospel Church.  The panel will include the playwright, Lisa Codrington, and local faith leaders with professional experience in youth development and education.

The exposition is presented by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’ s Buffalo alumnae chapter.
