Black History Month: Education Scholarships

There are only 28 days in Black History month, so the month does seem to go fast. As a part of their celebration of African American culture, many companies launched initiatives including special programming on TV, celebratory web sites and even scholarship funds. There are actually just three more major Black History month scholarship programs left, and all of them have a deadline to apply on February 28, 2014.

Here they are:

#1 – The 100 Black Men of America Future Leader Scholarship Program is open to high school seniors as well as college freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors. The scholarship is based on academic achievement and community service. For more details, visit

#2 – The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program is designed to give the financial assistance to student leaders, who can not afford to attend college. Funded by the GM Foundation, the program annually gives away 100 renewable scholarship awards and 1,000 non-renewable scholarship awards. For more details, visit

#3 – LAGRANT Foundation Scholarships are targeted toward minority undergraduate and graduate students, offering scholarships for students interested in careers in advertising, marketing, public relations, anthropology, or art. Students must be American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian/Pacific Islander, Black (non-Hispanic) or Hispanic. For more details, visit

BONUS: The Coca-Cola Pay It Forward Scholarship Program (funded by Steve Harvey) offers scholarship awards and once-in-a-lifetime apprenticeship experiences to African American youth looking to pave the way for their futures. The deadline for this scholarship is on March 15, 2014. For more details, visit

These scholarship programs are giving away scholarship awards as high as $10,000 per student, and so students are encouraged to apply now and not wait until the last minute. Late applications will not be accepted.
