Band to play at Craven Community College

John Brown’s “Little” Big Band is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Craven Community College, Orringer Auditorium, 800 College Ct. The band will bring the sound of the 1940s swing band music to life in this show of instruments and big, dramatic notes. Tickets are $25 and $12 for students. Tickets issued for the original concert date, Friday, Jan. 21, will be honored for this performance.

Craven Arts Council presents Art Walk

Art Walk will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 10, in downtown New Bern. Join downtown businesses and restaurants for opening receptions, demonstrations, special events and more. For more information, visit cravenarts.gov.

Summer Concert Series features I-42 Band

Footloose on the Neuse Summer Concert Series will feature the I-42 BAND at 6:30 p.m. June 10, at Union Point Park. The band specializes in the best of Dance/ Party music as well as Classic Beach Standards, Motown, soul, R&B, funk and modern country. Featured upfront is the nationally known recording artist Bryan Mayer. Trial By Fire – Journey Tribute Band will be the guest performers at 6:30 p.m. June 24. Symphony to perform at convention center

The North Carolina Symphony will hold its Movie Music Classics event at 7:30 p.m. June 10, at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center, 203 S. Front St. Relive your favorite musical moments in film history, including music from West Side Story, The Magnificent Seven, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, and more. Partners in Education to hosts annual luncheon 

The Partners in Education (PIE) Annual Luncheon will be held June 14, at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center, 203 S. Front St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Event begins at noon. This annual event supports and recognizes educators in Craven County Schools. PIE awarded over $400,000 through various grants and programs during the 2021-22 school year. Speaker will be Curtis Jones, superintendent of Bibb County Schools and 2019 National Superintendent of the Year. Tickets are $30 per person and may be purchased by calling 252-514-6321.

Tryon Palace to present free Juneteenth program

Sauuda Eshe will present through songs, recitation and historical data an answer why Juneteenth should be celebrated at a program, “The Journey to Juneteenth” at 7 p.m. June 16, at the North Carolina History Center, Cullman Performance Hall, 529 S. Race supports domestic violence services

Coastal Women’s Shelter will hold its 23rd Annual Run for Shelter Race at 7 a.m. June 18 at Creekside Park, 1821 Old Airport Road. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The annual 5K, 10K, and 1-Mile Run or walk support domestic violence services in Craven, Jones and Pamlico Counties. Get your boats ready

The Great Trent River Raft Race begins at 10 a.m. June 18 at Union Point Park. Check in, inspections and launching is from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. All vessels will launch from Union Point Park. Everyone must be unloaded and launched no later than 10:30 a.m. Race start times are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be staggered to reduce congestion and for safety, depending on the number of entries. An awards ceremony will follow at 3:30 p.m. Guests include Pirates of the Loose Cannon Company, Marz Aerial Arts & Fitness and the Motley Tones. Participants may register for the race at TheGreatTrentRiverRaftRace.com.

Juneteenth celebration set for downtown New Bern

A parade and festival highlights this year’s Juneteenth annual celebration set for June 18. The parade starts at 11 a.m. on Broad Street and the festival is from noon to 4 p.m. Duffest and several other events are planned starting June 10 through June 19. A Coastal Photo Club Exhibition is being held at the New Bern-Craven County Public Library, through June 29.  The collection showcases images from some of the region’s best photographers. The library is located at 400 Johnson St. and is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

A Juneteenth Exhibition is on display until June 30 at the Bank of Arts, 317 Middle St. Local African American artists will present works about the holiday, African American History, their experiences as African Americans and what freedom means to them. Artists included in the Juneteenth exhibition include Toni Graves, Jacinda Aytch, Kevin Cruz, and Diamond Campbell. For more information, call 252-638-2577.
