Bluecross Blueshield of Tennessee and the Chattanooga Festival of Black Arts & Ideas teamed up to host the inaugural Chattanooga Juneteenth Freedom Run & Opal Lee Walk for Freedom.
The Opal Lee run and walk is only done in 12 other cities across the country. Ricardo Morris is the founder of the Chattanooga Festival of Black Arts & Ideas Juneteenth Independence Day. He said he was honored that the Scenic City was chosen as a location for the Opal Lee Freedom Walk.
“So we applied to be one of the cities and won the opportunity to be one of those cities. We’re with New York, Houston, Atlanta and other bigger cities so it’s great to hear that Chattanooga was gonna be one of those,” Morris said.
The race began and ended at the Howard High School on Broad Street
