Washington: US police released footage from police camcorders showing officers firing dozens of shots at 25-year-old African American man, Jayland Walker, who tried to flee his car after being stopped by police last week.

The Mayor of Akron in Ohio state Dan Horrigan called for calm after publishing the video of the shooting. Walker’s lawyer said he had been shot 60 times.
“Many will wish to air their grievances in public, and I fully support our residents’ right to peacefully assemble,” Mayor Horrigan said, expressing his great sadness and adding, “but I hope the community can agree that violence and destruction are not the answer.”

Akron Police Chief Steve Mylett said that he did not know the exact number of shots fired at Walker, but added that the coroner’s report indicated more than 60 injuries to the body of the young man whose death sparked outrage and demands for accountability.
