Three arrested after white supremacist group marches in Jamaica Plain

Three people were arrested after men identifying with a white supremacy group marching in Jamaica Plain clashed with counter-protesters Saturday.

The Nationalist Social Club – 131, a New England neo-Nazi group, marched and chanted on a sidewalk in Jamaica Plain, holding a banner that said “Pedo Scum Off Our Streets.”

Three people were arrested for disturbing the peace, according to Boston police. Their names had not been released as of Saturday afternoon.

The event was documented by multiple people in the neighborhood who took to social media to decry their presence. One video posted to Twitter shows members of the hate group wearing black gaiters over their faces and hats, each labeled “131.” At one point they argue with two women as they attempt to unfurl their banner. Police presence can be seen in the video clip.

“It’s clear that Boston is a way point in the crusade of hate launched five years ago in Charlottesville,” said Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden in a statement. “The presence of white supremacists at a Jamaica Plain book reading today, like their downtown Boston march earlier this month, is at once a disgrace and a warning. Society everywhere is targeted by these groups, and society everywhere must reject them.”

Members from the same hate group were also spotted displaying a banner reading “Keep Boston Irish” in South Boston during the St. Patrick’s Day parade, and some members identified with the group while taking part in the insurrection of the Capitol on January 6.

Saturday’s march follows a march through Boston by another white nationalist group, Patriot Front, earlier this month. About 100 members of the hate group marched through downtown Boston wearing face coverings. During the march, some members allegedly assaulted Charles Murrell, a Black artist and activist, and the march seemed to catch law enforcement by surprise. Police say they are reviewing video from that march to try to identify the alleged attackers.
