On Tuesday, the culture-lover shared his 2022 Summer Reading List, complete with 14 books spanning a variety of categories that he’s been enjoying this year, in hopes it might inspire others to take a peek at them as well.
“I’ve read a couple of great books this year and wanted to share some of my favorites so far,” the 44th U.S. president captioned the Instagram round-up, further posing the question, “What have you been reading this summer?” to his over 35 million followers.
Some of the bibliophile‘s top picks from this year include science-fiction Sea of Tranquility by Canadian writer Emily St. John Mandel, International best-seller Why We’re Polarized by Ezra Klein and A Little Devil in America: In Praise of Black Performance, a deep-dive exploring the complexities of Black art, music, and culture.

As a known basketball enthusiast, Obama also added Blood in the Garden: The Flagrant History of the 1990s New York Knicks by Chris Herring, noting that it was specifically included “For Hoops Fans.”
Following his list of literature, the former POTUS posted a comprehensive collection of songs on his 2022 Summer Playlist, noting how “excited” he gets to share the list yearly because he “learns about so many new artists” from his commenters’ feedback. “It’s an example of how music really can bring us all together,” he added.
The musical collection—inclusive of every genre one could think of, with artists bridging generations past and present—contains 44 songs featuring everything from old school soul, hip-hop and afro-beats to classic rock, country and reggaeton, showcasing his widely diverse ear.
