“Chevalier” is set to make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The film directed by Stephen Williams is a historical drama about Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, considered one of the great composers of his time. The film turns the spotlight on the Black artist whose legacy has been woefully obscured.
The movie, which is set to be released by Searchlight Pictures, stars Kelvin Harrison Jr., Samara Weaving, and Lucy Boynton. The film is written by Stefani Robinson and features music by Kris Bowers.
”Chevalier” will open in the special presentations section in Toronto with a theatrical release set to be announced later this year.
Chevalier de Saint-Georges was a French classical composer, virtuoso violinist, a conductor of the leading symphony orchestra in Paris, and a renowned champion fencer. He wrote numerous symphonies, concertos, and operas, including “L’Amante Anonyme.”
